Back in Action!

‘There are 11 kinds of people in this world; those who understand Roman numerals, and those who don’t.’

Second session is underway and what a great crowd we have. Every cabin is being used and the atmosphere is electric. I was worried that the whole day would be washed out as the forecast was for rain and storms, but the sun shone instead (could the weather guys have been more wrong?). The buses cruised in at a little before three, and once again the old place was awash with the sound of happy campers. And that’s how it should be. What is camp without the people who come here? Nothing is the answer to that. The buildings sit cold and unused throughout the winter, and are only brought to life by those who choose to come here every summer. And we are so glad that you all chose Menominee as your summer home for 2016.

Talking of which: it was so good to see the parents this weekend. Yes, you guys, the people who choose to send their boys to – what we believe to be is – one of the finest camps in the Northwoods. We have been here a long time (1928) and it is because of your continued support that we thrive in the 21st century. Our structure and traditions are as strong today as they were 50 years ago; and I’d like to think that those who follow in our footsteps will keep both those traditions and the campfires burning.

My name is Woody and I will be writing the blog – Woody’s Word – every night. The aim is to keep you up to speed with what we are doing and to try and describe the day to you in such a way that is informative, fun, and neutral. I will endeavor to get this written and posted by 10.30 every night, but I will ask you to forgive me, in advance, just in case this is not always possible.

We ended the day with a campfire (a real one) down at the lake at which we made a few introductions and sang a few songs. We’ll hit the ground running tomorrow, but only after a good night’s sleep. Don’t worry folks, all is well, so safely rest.

Goodnight everybody.

As ever…WOODY!
