Trip Week Starts

‘I wonder what kind of bird Humpty Dumpty would have turned into? Sadly, we’ll never know’.

Today was one of those strange days when the place emptied out as the trips set off. We have boys in Minneapolis, the Dells and Door County this evening, as well as a small group camping out in the Sugar Camp Creek, not far from here. That leaves just 20 or so people here as I write, and that just feels strange.
Camp is meant to have people and noise and movement in it, and tonight it is very quiet indeed. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but I will be glad when we are all back together on Thursday.
The trips are an important part of the CM summer programme. The boys – as they work their way up through the age groups here – know what trips to expect when they return each year, so there is great excitement as trip week approaches. Whether it is a canoe trip for the younger guys, or a road-trip for the older campers, the trips help make a Menominee summer a memorable experience.
I have to be up early to take breakfast to the guys in the woods, so I shall leave you here. It is a beautiful evening – in stark contrast to yesterday – and all is well, so safely rest.
Goodnight everybody.
As ever…WOODY!
