“The wise man asks: the fool wonders”
White team success!! So it did, indeed, all come down to the Relay. And what an end to a really exciting Relay. The Greens were way out ahead at one point, but, as so often happens in this event, the gap was closed when it came time to light the fire. By the time the Green sock arrived back on the shores of Sand Lake, they were about 11 minutes in front of the Whites. However, try as they might, they could not get their fire started. As the minutes ticked away, the White canoe appeared around the corner of the shoreline, and before the Green fire-builders knew it, the Whites were trying to light their fire. That 11 minute advantage had been lost, and the flames began to engulf the White fire. And still the Green fire would not ignite. Now we had a roaring blaze in the White firepit, and it wasn’t long before the water in the can was bubbling then boiling. And so to the water balloon up the hill.
Both teams were to drop their balloon a number of times, but not until they were both neck-and-neck, halfway up the hill. But then the Green balloon exploded, while the Whites continued on their way to the flagpole. Their momentum was such that they made it to the top well ahead of the Greens. After smashing their balloon against the flagpole, the whole White team raced into the lake as one to celebrate their turnaround victory. And with that Relay victory came the overall victory, too. Way to go White team!!
What a great Green and White competition this has been this year. And now for the Twilight League Championship playoffs. It’s just non-stop action here at the Friendly Confines.
One day to go, and all is well, so safely rest.
Goodnight everybody.
As ever…WOODY!
