“Kind words cost nothing yet accomplish so much.”
We’ve just blown Taps! That is the earliest Taps this summer thus far. It’s been so hot (85 degrees) and so humid, and the boys have been playing so hard, AND with some rain coming in, we’re going to take advantage of all that and get an early night. Every cloud has a silver lining, right? When one door closes, another one opens? You know what I mean.
It has been a beautiful day, and we have managed to get a lot done, so please don’t think that I’m complaining about getting an early night. I’m not, and nor would I. Sleep and the consumption of plenty of water help everyone get the best out of the camping experience. We are wall-to-wall sports, and just like the guys in the Tour de France, we need our rest and recovery. Ok, ok, we’re not quite 100 miles a day on a bike, but some of the little guys are really pushing it, and they’re not used to that much exercise. For some of us, (I came here at 240 pounds and am now down at 228) losing a bit of weight or maybe gaining a bit of muscle will be a good thing indeed.
This evening the CITs took over the program and ran their Fortnite game. This proved very popular in the first session, and so it proved again. Our CIT group – counselors in training, or campers in transition? – is 17 strong this summer. That bodes well for the future. Having them all back as staff in the years ahead would certainly put us in a strong position. But for now, they are learning the ropes as they also make the transition from boys to men.
It’s half an hour after Taps and all is well, so safely rest.
Goodnight everybody.
AS ever…WOODY!
