“Being defeated is often a temporary condition. But giving up is what makes it permanent.” Marilyn vos Savant.

Another hot day here on the shores of Sand Lake, and what a great day it has been. I’m writing this a little earlier than usual as the boys are running around playing Fortnite. I have no idea what is going on and or how the game works, but it certainly sounds as if they are having fun. Normally we would play Twilight League, our evening softball program, however we wanted to give the CITs a chance to organise and run a program. From what I can see (and hear), they appear to be making a pretty good job of it, and that certainly bodes well for the future.

This afternoon we did our second round of Menominee Midsummer Madness. Six teams compete in various sports (not too dissimilar to King of the Camp, from the first session). The Gators, the Buffs, the Rock Chalk Jayhawks, the Buckeyes, the Green Wave and the U make up line-up, and we will go at it until Saturday when we will have the play-offs and finals.

Our instructional program, the Big Ten, is what dominates the mornings, at least for the first week of camp. The boys sign up for the things that they want to do. No-one is forced to do anything unless it has been requested by their parents. In this way, the boys can create a tailor-made schedule for themselves. This gives them a sense of ownership and responsibility, so no matter if they are 9 or 16 or Oskar, they choose what they want to do, although the proviso is, of course, that they must do something. There is ample time for doing some of the more off-beat stuff, things like paddleball, baggo, tetherball, and the increasingly popular pickleball. Those activities do not form part of the instructional program, although I’m sure it won’t be long before pickleball is in there somewhere.

And so to the showers, because you’ve ‘gotta be clean if you want Canteen’, which will be coming up in 20 minutes.

So far, so good. All really is well, so safely rest.

Goodnight everybody.

As ever…WOODY!
