“From what we get, we can make a living: what we give, however, makes a life.” Arthur Ashe

Another great day at camp! We started this evening with an appreciation of Jeremy Kohlenbrener (JK, J Bear, Uncle Jeremy) our waterfront director and our new 20 year veteran. Yes folks, Jeremy has been here for 20 years this year: quite a milestone. We honoured him with speeches and gifts, and a few friends from out of town. It’s not everyday that someone reaches 20 years, so a milestone like this has to be celebrated in the right way. Tomorrow is Five Year Night when 23 new inductees will join the impressive list of Five Year Club members. Five, 10, 20 years: these are all great points in anyone’s camping career, and they all worth remembering.

We managed to get the 11 year old and 13 year old basketball finals played after Jeremy’s night, but we did run out of time (and steam) for the 16 year old games. We’ll get those done tomorrow for sure.

Last night, as I was writing this, I told you that the Senior boys had gone over to Camp Ojibwa on the other side of Eagle River to play a couple of games of basketball and one softball game. We came away from there beaten in all three games, but with our heads held high. In what was quite an intimidating atmosphere, the boys played hard and fair, but were beaten on the night by the better team, fair and square. We can take away quite a lot from a loss like that, and I’m sure we’ll learn and improve and be better players as a result. Losing isn’t always such a bad thing. It allows for a reset and some reflection, and that is what we will do before we go into more meaningful competition in ten days or so.

It’s late, and I’m tired and all is well, so safely rest.

Goodnight everbody.

As ever…WOODY!
