“Prizes are overrated. All anybody needs to know is that Mozart never won one.”
After two very late nights, I’m back to bring you up to speed with what’s been going on. Saturday evening we had the Five Year Night celebration where we inducted 23 new members. With 53 already in the club and at camp this summer, we had a big crowd to take out to De Noyers supper club in Eagle River. That’s where we retire to after the ceremony in Wasserman Hall. With so many people there, it meant that we did not get back until after 11pm. That is way too late for me to start writing.
Before that it was entirely normal day. Plenty of MSM action, all morning and all afternoon. I’m still waiting on confirmation of the result. Lots of tallying up to do, I guess. When I get it, you’ll get it.
Yesterday was Lazy Day, the one day of the week where we let the guys sleep in late (10am) and everything revolves around the cabin. One of the things they must do is to find a campsite. On Sunday evening we have Hot Dog Cookout, and so they need somewhere to cook. I’m happy to say that everyone ate as everyone found a campsite somewhere on the 65 acres.
In the afternoon we had a beach party as the temperature crept up towards 80 degrees. Indeed, yesterday was one of the best days we’ve had thus far. Just a beautiful blue sky and relentless sunshine, and not that humid. For me, a perfect camp day.
We had our special Way Ceremony after movie night and the staff meeting. It was already late when we started the walk out to the golf course, and it got even later when, as Jason was throwing the final key log into the fire, he was interrupted by one of the Green team elders (aka Jeff Toombs) who was protesting about the forthcoming marriage of Jason and Melanie. The White team elder (aka Woody) also got involved, and the only way to resolve this argument was to endure the Fiery Tug of War of Death. Previous Green and White warriors came forth to pull the rope through the fire (which of course was never going to work, as the fire burnt through the rope very quickly). As bodies fell backwards Jason declared the start of Green and White 2024. Green and White is our colour war that goes on almost to the end of camp. Teams were chosen right there at the fire, and as each camper learnt which team they would be on they were given a green or white glow stick. It was then a slow walk back to the hockey rink (IN SILENCE, a truly great feat of endurance for some of them) where the first Cheer Off was conducted. It was close, as both teams were very good, but it was the Greens who took this first event. There is lot more Green and White to come over the next two weeks, and you will learn all about it right here on the Word, or in the online Megaphone.
They’re in bed early(ish) tonight after the very late finish (11.45) last night. And that’s where I’m going. Whether Green or White, all is well, so safely rest.
Goodnight everybody.
As ever…WOODY!
