“It is much easier to build strong children that to repair broken men”.  Frederick Douglass

Hello everybody

We did it!!! Yes we did. I’m sure that this will not be news to you by now, such is modern communications technology, so you will forgive me for coming late to the party. It was as I hoped it would be, staying close all the way to the end. We had the chance to win the whole thing by taking one of the three outstanding 11and under basketball games, but try as we might, one of those victories remained tantalisingly just out of reach. And so it came down to the 16A softball game, tied as were at that point, at 35 events each. I never thought that was possible after yesterday, but it’s funny how sport can do the strangest of things just when you didn’t expect it.

I know that many of you were watching the action live as it happened, so you will know that after seven innings the score was 14 a piece. The extra innings produced just one more run for the boys in green, and so it was that the competition went our way. When we can win 16A AND the competition, then we know that the sporting gods are looking kindly upon us.

By now, we were well into the afternoon, but we could wait no longer to jump in the lake. Indeed, that took precedence over going into lunch (as hungry as the boys were). Not everyone who comes to camp gets this opportunity, so those that do (get that opportunity) want to milk it for all its worth, and so they did. There is already talk of doing it all again next summer. Bring it on, I say.

We took it easy for the rest of the day (what else could we do?). We ended the evening with a pizza party for the whole camp, and I’ve just taken a walk around the cabin area and I can tell you that it is quiet. The boys are exhausted. And so they should be. They expended a lot of effort over the course of the competition, and they have been rewarded for all their hard work. We are very proud of them, as I’m sure you are too.

Great day! Great times! Needless to say, all is well here on the shores of Sand Lake, so we can all safely rest.

Goodnight everybody

As ever…WOODY!
