“He who receives a good turn should never forget it, but he who does one should never remember it.”

The dust has settled and we have reflected and talked about what happened over the last two days, and no matter how we spin it, the score remains 37 – 36 to Kawaga. We played hard, we played with heart, commitment and desire, and we played to win. But a few dropped balls here and there; a few missed tackles here and there; a few missed rebounds here and there made the difference in the end. It is in every play of the game where those moments when you can win a game or you can lose a game are hidden. And when all those moments are added up, the result is what it is. It was a tough loss to take given that it was so close in the end, but snaps to everyone who made it such a contest after going behind 11 – 17 on the first day.

It was a late finish (the competition always seems to run late) and the 13 year olds did not get back from Kawaga until 9.30, so we all ate dinner late. There were a few tears and a few despondent faces, but this was a good lesson for everyone to learn. You cannot win every game you play: you WILL lose at some point. Losing is part of life, be it in exams, love or playing sports. But in order to win (in anything) you have to run the risk of losing. That’s just the way it is. You have to be brave and bold, but you must also be prepared for every eventuality. Knowing that you cannot win every game you play will help you come to terms with the vicissitudes of life, and will probably make you a better, well-rounded person. That is part of the reason why we like competition here at CM. It teaches some very important lessons.

So now we can get back into Green and White, another great competition. We didn’t manage any Green and White today as we let the boys run camp on Camper Counsellor Switch Day. They devised the schedule and they did the announcements, and they helped run the social with the girls from Camp Marimeta tonight. They lost control at the flag tonight as Jason reclaimed the reins as things got back to normal. Normal means cabin clean-up tomorrow morning for the first time since Saturday.

Normal means that all is well, so safely rest.

Goodnight everybody.

As ever…WOODY!
