“Experience is the best teacher.”
It’s the holiday weekend and British and American is upon us once again. All hell broke loose at the flag this morning as Melanie and baby Miles were captured and held hostage as the British attempted to take over the camp. Of course they failed (as they always do every summer), but it was a fight none-the-less. Once normal order was restored, we got straight into some Captain’s Duels on the shuffleboard court. The British came away with the overall win, which meant that the All Camp Squirt Gun Fight (this afternoon) was all important. The Americans won that, so it’s all square going into Revere’s Ride tonight.
In between all of that, we hosted the staff from Camp Kawaga on the volleyball court. They came away with a 2-0 win, although it was closer than the score might have suggested. Likewise, our staff went to Camp Horseshoe in Rhinelander last night for a bit of soccer action, and came away with a 2-1 loss. That, too, was a close game, and while it certainly wasn’t World Cup standard, it was a lot of fun for everyone (including the senior age group that came over to watch).
Whippersnapper was the winning word last night as the Spelling Bee reached its climax. As in, “Oskar was a whippersnapper.” These boys can spell. It was hard trying to find words that they could not spell. We certainly have a bunch of educated athletes here.
What a great weekend of sport we have coming our way. The Tour de France starts tomorrow (always an exciting and colourful next three weeks), while the World Cup continues apace, especially with the Mexico v England game taking place on Sunday. We have our own sports to play here, so there will not be a dull moment over the next few days, and that is fine by us. Needless to say, with so much going on, all is well, so safely rest.
Goodnight everybody.
AS ever…WOODY!
