81 Degrees!!

‘Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today, because if you do it today, and you like it, you can always do it again tomorrow’.    Billy Connolly

So why wait? We’ve been doing it all today, in near perfect camp weather. It was 81 degrees, yes, but the breeze off the lake kept us cool. And this evening, once the wind had died down, it was as clear and as calm as I have ever seen it here: perfect for the Egg Drop. The egg drop I hear you say: what is that? Well, as the name suggests, it involves eggs being dropped – from a great height I might add – and the egg that does not break wins. Simple. However, dropping eggs from great heights is never going to have a happy ending, especially if you don’t want the egg to break at the end of it. So each cabin had to build a nest, or some sort of contraption, entirely from natural materials, so that the egg might be transported safely from top to bottom. And by that I mean 50 feet from the top of the climbing tower. Four cabins were successful in the drop: cabins 5, 9, 14 and 12. One cabin was disqualified for having a hard-boiled egg (not allowed), and everyone had fun.

Talking of fun; it would be remiss of me not to mention the new golf green. After many weeks of construction, and many bags of sand, we now have a near perfect green. We are going to see how it survives a northern Wisconsin winter before deciding to build another one, but for now the boys can drive onto a realistic green where they can putt into anyone of seven holes. We also have some new driving mats. We are fortunate, indeed, to have the room to have a golf course here. And after Tiger won at Augusta again, golf is proving popular with the boys once more.

The tide has turned in Sun and Wind, as the Sun have taken the lead 3-2. This was after a stellar performance on the dodgeball field this morning. And then at lunch, the Sun also won the silent meal. That’s right folks, the boys were silent for a whole meal!! Can you imagine? It was great.

And they’re still playing as I write this. Midnight Manhunt for Sun and Wind. The ring of fire has been lit in the gully, squirt ‘guns’ have been issued, and in 15 mins they will be done. How much fun can they have? They’re going to sleep well tonight. As am I. And if the Wind win this one then all will be well, so safely rest.

Goodnight everybody.

As ever…WOODY!
