Woody’s Word (August 1, 2018) – Don’t Pass Go

Posted: August 3 2018

Pinch, punch, first of the month.

‘It is easy to become a parent, but not so easy to be a parent’.  Woody.

So here we are in August already. Where did that time go? Time is running out, and we still have lots to do, sooooo…

Let’s get to it. Another day of Green and White, and there is no separating these two teams right now. The Whites took British Bulldogs, and then the Greens triumphed in a come-from-behind Tug-O-War contest. Rain stopped play at that point, so we gathered the guys together to explain what the Campfire was tonight: the ever popular, Imitation Night. This takes some preparation, so an early heads-up was a good idea. Mother nature played her part by keeping everyone indoors so they had time to practice.

It’s never easy when we have to keep the boys cooped up in their respective cabins, so we were happy to see the clouds clear after lunch. That enabled us to get into Menominee Monopoly, a giant version of the popular board game that is played over the entire camp. Running in small groups, everyone has to keep up and negotiate hazards and tasks as they make their way in a huge loop from flag-pole to flag-pole. The Greens prevailed in this, as they did in Dodgeball this evening. So they are on something of a comeback now. The unstoppable Whites have come up against the immovable Greens. Game on!!

Imitation Night, this evening, was in keeping with tradition, as the campers shared their clever observations of their counsellors in front of the whole camp. It is light-hearted humour of the right kind. The boys don’t miss much, that’s for sure.

And the day wasn’t finished just yet. After we sung Taps, six cabins went to the mess hall to enjoy pizza, courtesy of Jason. Just how much fun can these guys pack into one day?? Too much!

But at 11.10pm the day is almost done, and all is well, so safely rest.

Goodnight everybody.

As ever….WOODY!
