“In Hollywood, if you don’t have a psychiatrist, people think you’re crazy”
Hello everybody!! My name is Woody, and I hope to be able to guide you through the ups and downs (just a turn of phrase, as we don’t have many downs) of a CM summer. It is so good to be back at camp, especially after last summer’s washout. What a year or so it has been since we last sat down together. Much water has washed under the great bridge of life in that time, and everyone of us has to be a little wiser since covid 19 came upon us at the beginning of 2020. But to be honest folks, I have no desire to talk about illness and pandemics, infection rates and social distancing. Coming to camp is an opportunity to get away from that, and we are going to seize that opportunity with both hands.
The Word has arrived as we finish off British and American, our great 4th July competition. In a strange turn of events, it will be Revere’s Ride that will decide the competition this year. Message to Garcia was completed this morning – ably won by the British – who, therefore, go into tonight’s final game just one point ahead. With two points at stake tonight, the pressure and tension are intense. Will the British prevail, or will the Americans repeat history and come good in the end? We shall see.
It has been sooooo hot and humid of late. The grass is turning brown, and we could definitely use some rain. I don’t mind the heat, but the humidity does drain the life out of you. It’s like Florida, but without air-conditioning.
It’s trip week this week, albeit a modified trip week. We have way more canoe trips going out, and that is something I like. We are not a tripping/canoeing camp as such, but we are surrounded on all sides by nature, so why not take advantage of it. In the circumstances, we are trying to avoid public spaces, where there are lots of people, so it makes sense to keep ourselves to ourselves and enjoy all the natural elements of camp. We’re in the North Woods after all!
From what I can see, in the short time I have been here thus far, it would seem that all is well, so safely rest.
Goodnight everybody.
As ever…WOODY!
