Happy Birthday America

‘Oh don’t the days seem lank and long
When all goes right and nothing wrong,
And isn’t your life extremely flat
With nothing whatever to grumble at.

Gilbert and Sullivan.

In complete contrast, the days are flying by here, with barely time to take stock of all the fun we are having, and we certainly don’t have anything to complain about. British and American continued today with the Captains’ Duels under a hot sun this morning. Armed only with a balloon full of water, the captains would approach each other on the shuffleboard court and attempt to get one wetter than the other by bursting the balloon on them. There are different ways to do this, but what usually works best is just to run headlong at your opponent and see what happens when the balloons collide and the water explodes. This was, indeed, the tactic that most of the captains tried, with mixed results. The British came out on top at the end of it all.
This afternoon it was the Land and Water events, with the boys doing such things as trying to get the greased water melon from one dock to the other, power dipping, dizzy izzies and water balloon toss. It was the British who prevailed in this too. So, as the day closes on America’s birthday, it is the British who take a 2-0 lead in tomorrow’s events.
We arrived home from Camp Marimeta at 10.20 tonight after another great fireworks show and social. And so endeth the birthday day.
I hope you have had as much fun as we have had, wherever you may be. All is well, folks, so safely rest.
Goodnight everybody.
As ever…WOODY!
