WOODY’S WORD 28th June 2013

‘They say that with money you can have everything, but this is not true. You can buy food, but not appetite; medicine, but not health; knowledge, but not wisdom; fun, but not joy; acquaintances, but not real friends; sex, but not love. Yes, you can have the husk of everything, but not the kernel’. ARNE GARBORG

TGIF! That’s what some people say out in the real world, but not in our world here in Eagle River. Every day is a Monday or a Friday or a Wednesday; it doesn’t matter. The work-day dynamic is so different at summer camp. Every day is just a fun, busy day, and today was no different.

We kicked it off this morning with some free play with an emphasis on football and learning how to canoe. The rain stayed at bay (in the main) save for a quick shower this afternoon. After that we were bathed in glorious sunshine that helped make Twilight League such a pleasure this evening.

We had an early-to-bed deal after two late nights. Taps blew across the pa system at 9.40 and most of the boys were asleep by 10 – or so it seemed. I took a walk around the cabins and made it back before the last shower of the day. If nothing else, camp is green!

Can I take this opportunity to thank all those boys who have been here for two weeks and are leaving tomorrow. Thank you mom and dad for sending them here to Menominee for their first camp experience. The first of many we hope. And how about a few big snaps for those who have chosen to stay on for another two weeks. The more the merrier. Making life fun and making a difference; our raison detre.

All is well as we enter the weekend, so safely rest.

Goodnight everybody.

As ever…WOODY!
