“Teaching kids to count is an important thing to do, but teaching them what counts is even more important.”

Our first Saturday of the first session – not that Saturday is any different to most other days of the week. Unlike the real world, Saturday is just another day at camp. Indeed, were it not for the fact that we have a schedule posted every day, one could easily lose track of time. Sure, we do certain things on certain days of the week (laundry on Wednesday, letter writing on Monday and Friday, no clean-up on Sunday), but in the main camp life looks very similar from one day to the next. And that’s just fine by everyone. We have so much to do, that there is little time to clock-watch and worry about what day it is. However, the reason I mention the first Saturday of the first session is that it means we are out socialising tonight. Yes, that’s right, the first Saturday of the first session is our first social event of the summer. As usual it is over at Chippewa Ranch Camp just around the corner from us. I’m not actually there as I stayed behind to catch up with stuff and write this blog, but the boys will be back sometime in the next half hour.

The day started with yet more rain (I have to mention the weather, as it plays such a big part in camp life). It continued to rain all morning, but we just got on with it. When we can play outside, we will. We even had some boys in the lake! To mix things up a little this afternoon, we had a track meet and a speedball game over two age divisions for King of the Camp points. That went really well. We included a 100 yard dash, long jump, softball throw, broad jump and a game of dodgeball to round it out. I’m waiting for end of the week scores for King of the Camp, and as soon as I have them, I will include them here.

So that is almost one week done already. Where did that go? It feels like we’ve been together for a lot longer than that. A day can feel like week, and week can feel like a day. Such is camp. But all is well, so safely rest.

Goodnight everybody

As ever…WOODY!
