Competition Success!

‘Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines whether you do it. Attitude dictates how well you do it.’  Lou Holtz

We did it!! 12-4 to the guys in green this afternoon. Camp Timberlane provided some very good opposition today, but we proved just a little too strong for them. Our younger age groups did especially well, and that bodes well for the big one next week. And we did it all in sweltering heat. The mercury went above 90 degrees out on the soccer field for the first time this summer. Being at the waterfront in this heat was bad enough, so I applaud all those involved in running around both the soccer field and the basketball court. Our obvious fitness and enthusiasm paid off. Winning feels so much better than losing, but win or lose I like to think that because of the way we do things here we can win and lose in the right way. We certainly know how to play the game the right way, but that is not enough if (in my book)  we are not magnanimous in defeat and measured in victory.  Doing things the right way is all-important, and we did all that and more today.

This evening we had a visit from Fox Sounds, a barbershop group from downstate, led by our very own nurse Dawn. We managed to cool the rec’ hall down a bit with the ancient, but still effective, air conditioning unit, so the show went on in relative comfort, at least compared with last night.

And still it is hot as I write this at 10.30pm. I remember a couple of summers ago we had to light a log fire in the lodge in July (!) it got so chilly. There is no chance of that tonight.

Big day tomorrow, especially for those who have been here for 5 years.

But whether one year, five years or one week, all is well, so safely rest.

Goodnight everybody.

As ever…WOODY!
