But the Whites did win Green and White this year. Yes folks, what a finale it was. After winning The Sing last night, the White team were on something of a high, so they went into The Relay this afternoon with great confidence, despite knowing that they were up against a very determined opponent. It was nip and tuck all the way to the fire building part of the Relay, and even then it was difficult to separate the two teams. It was the White water that boiled over first, so it was them who took to the hill first with the water balloons. And that is when the problems started. Tossing a 12 inch balloon filled with water up the hill is not something you can practice very often, so it was the little guys on the lower slopes who really struggled to get to grips with this. Both teams were absolutely neck-and-neck at one point before both teams dropped their respective balloon, and down they went to the bottom of the hill to start again. Eventually both teams started throwing the balloon in a desperate attempt to get to the flagpole first. And so it was that the Green team got to the top first (by only a few seconds) to smash their balloon against the pole, and thus win the Relay. Or so they thought. In their enthusiasm to get the balloon up the hill first, they unfortunately forgot to include one of their team members (all team members must toss the balloon at some point up the hill), and so, with the Whites right behind them, smashing their balloon against the flagpole as the Green team celebrated, the mood changed from one of exuberance to despair. How could this have happened? Well, in the heat of the battle stuff happens, and not always for the good. The judges deliberated and formally announced the result, and the White team went crazy and jumped in the lake (as is our way of celebrating). So a great Green and White is over for another year, and the White streak continues. Nine in a row now. Hey: the Greens might not have won anything (this summer), but neither did Mozart. Scant consolation, I know, but hey ho.

That just leaves Twilight League to finish tomorrow, and that’s it for another summer. It’s gone quickly, but all is well, so safely rest.
