“Skate to where the puck is going, not where it has just been.”  Wayne Gretzky

Welcome back and welcome to Woody’s Word, second session. After a few days’ absence, I am back in the saddle and ready to tell you what goes on here everyday. At least I’ll try to: that is the plan. This is the blog that keeps you in touch and it is written in such a way that allows me to speak in very general terms without mentioning too many names (for names you will need to read The Megaphone online).

So here we are on the shores of Sand Lake ready for the second part of the summer. The first session flew by (as it always does when we have so much fun), and I can’t imagine the second session will be any different. We got things going just before 3pm as the buses rolled in a little earlier than expected, although the timing could not have been better as we were dodging the storm clouds with rain this afternoon. After packing almost 240 people into the mess hall for an opening dinner of burgers and tata tots (and salad bar: we love the salad bar), we then retired to the gully to play Capture the Flag. This is the traditional way to start camp, and it is a great way to run off some energy after that long bus ride.

Another tradition is the opening night camp fire hosted by long-time director Tom Adler. He plays guitar, encourages joke-telling, and creates a fun and relaxing atmosphere, especially for those who have never been here before. We went a little long as this was the perfect night for sitting around a campfire down at Sand Lake, but that was ok. We blew Taps on our first night at 10.15, and all is well, so safely rest.

Goodnight everybody

As ever…WOODY!
