“Live the life you love, and love the life you live”.
And we’re doing just that here at camp. I struggled to get online tonight. My people in the know tell me that the smoke from the wildfires in Canada is making the internet connection a bit hit and miss. Apparently the haze that the smoke creates is making a straight-line connection to the satellite a little tricky, so I’ll enjoy the connection while I’ve got it.
We hit Sun and Wind hard today. After the Wind win in Midnight Manhunt late last night, it was out to the athletic fields for some Runners and Chasers straight from the flag. This is one of my favourite games here at camp. It involves a lot of running and chasing (the clue is in the name), and it involves everyone. It’s a little hard to explain how it works in The Word, but one team chases the other against the clock, and the team with the best time wins. It sounds simple, but it never ceases to amaze me just how difficult some people find it. The fun is in having the counsellors play with and against the boys. The boys raise their game in order to outwit the adults, while the adults do not want to be out-smarted by the younger ones. It all makes for an intriguing spectacle, and in this year’s Sun and Wind, it was the Wind team who prevailed. This put them two up going into Capture the Energy Source this afternoon.
With both teams facing each other over the length of the soccer field, the numbers were called and the runners ran as they all tried to grab the hot energy source (an old tennis-ball cannister wrapped in tape). Wind won the first of three games, and we thought it was going to be a clean sweep, but the sun shone a lot more brightly after that early setback, so brightly in fact that they won back-to-back games and thus the series.
It is, therefore, 2-1 Wind as we rest our weary bodies tonight, with more Sun and Wind action coming our way tomorrow.
We slowed things right down after the flag with The Spelling Bee in Wasserman Hall. This is always popular, and so it proved again tonight. We had three age-group winners winning free canteens, and one overall winner who won a cabin pizza party.
So we ran , we chased, we captured and we spelt, and all is well, so safely rest.
Goodnight everybody
As ever…WOODY!
