Happy second session everybody, and or those of you new to camp, welcome to the podcast! Each night I (Jason) sit down with a few campers to hear about their day and talk about everything going on at camp. Tonight, all the boys are settling in with their counselors and their new friends in the cabin, so we are taking this opportunity to introduce you to this session’s Group Leaders and Youth Development Directors. First we’ll hear from Group Leaders Josh Ingram (Juniors), Jackson Wustner (Intermediates) and AJ Villarreal (Seniors). Then I play the recording from first session with Youth Development Directors Pamela Adler and Jeff Toombs. Enjoy and welcome to the family!
Woody’s Word – First Day, Second Session
‘Listen to the things people don’t say’.
But hang on; isn’t that something of a paradox? How can you listen to something someone doesn’t say? I mean, if they don’t say it, then how can you hear it? It was my mother who would say that to me, and I always wondered what she meant, until, of course, I grew up and then it all made sense: as so much does when you are away from home for the first time. And here we are with so many boys here, away from home for the first time. And it’s great! Our future is with us right now, enjoying their first night in the North Woods.
The buses pulled in a little after 2.35 this afternoon, and second session was underway. The boys were met by a raucous crowd of enthusiastic ‘8 weekers’, our biggest crowd ever! That’s right, we are packed this second session. And the more the merrier I say.
I wanted to say a big thank you to the parents who visited us this weekend. It was great to see you, and I’m so happy that the weather was sooooo good for you. I hope you enjoyed the facilities and the wonderful food. And now we get to enjoy the company of your boys for the next four weeks. We have plenty to do and plenty to look forward to this session. You will read about it all right here in The Word every night. This is our connection with you out there in the real world, so I’ll do my best to keep you fully up to date with everything that goes on.
But as I write this on this warm and humid evening in the North Woods, please know that all is well, so safely rest.
