“Keep pace with the drummer you hear, however measured or far away.”

Good evening everybody! We just finished our 5th straight gorgeous day at the Friendly Confines of Camp Menominee. A slight breeze off Sand Lake provided us with a cooling reprieve from the warm sun. We needed all the energy we could get on this action packed day, so thank goodness we have a kitchen staff that is looking out for us. We were treated to a dinner of roast beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and yorkshire pudding. Let’s rewind and recap our amazing day:

We began the morning with Big Ten instructional activities. We are into our 2nd rotation, so the boys are starting to really hone in on their skill development. After lunch we jumped back into leagues and game play with King of the Camp, followed by a nice long general to end the afternoon. After dinner, jumped into our first official Big Brother/Little Brother event of the summer. Our counselors organized a Fortnight style all-camp squirt gun fight for the boys, and they played together as a Big/Little Brother combo. We thought they might be going through actual Fortnight withdrawals…so this is the best we could do :).

After much needed showers and a quick snack at canteen, the boys piled in to the Mess Hall for one of our favorite nights of the summer: Horse Racing Night! The Senior Cabin hosts this traditional camp fire each year, and teams up with our youngest campers, Cabins 3 and 4 to make it happen. Each older camper is a “horse” and each younger camper is a “jockey”. They organize races around our mess hall which we have transformed into Menominee Downs for the evening. Here are the horses and jockeys preparing for race number two:

As I write this, they are tallying the final scores, as the rest of the camp made fake wagers on each race. We’ll see which cabin takes home the free canteens!

Menominee Firsts Update: We had 2 boys hit a dead center bullseye in archery today. Way to go guys!

Taps just played over the PA system. All is well. Safely Rest. Goodnight Everybody.

For the Love of Camp – Jason
